Covenant Studio / Expert workflow
Covenant Studio: Modernizing a high-stakes legal research workflow
Covenant Studio unifies document intake, structured covenant-data review, scoring readiness, report authoring, source traceability, and publication. My role was to turn a complex attorney-led process into a coherent software workflow while preserving expert review.
Product workflow; specific capability availability requires confirmation before publication.
The problem
Hundreds of structured fields, multiple reports and tranches, different scoring dependencies, and evidence requirements make this an end-to-end workflow problem—not a drafting problem.
My responsibility
- — Product strategy and workflow definition
- — Data-model translation and prototypes
- — Stories, acceptance criteria, and API requirements
- — Doc Score integration and validation behavior
- — QA, UAT, launch planning, and stakeholder alignment

09 / Workflow
Put the hard gate at the consequential action
Dependent required fields initially blocked saving partial work.
Put the hard gate at the consequential action.
10 / Workflow
Complete for what?
A generic Complete flag collapses multiple readiness states.
Extraction complete; scoring 100%; report 87%; publication blocked.
11 / AI & trust
Professional judgment is part of the product model
A calculable score is not automatically a legitimate assessment.
Structured facts + deterministic factors + attorney judgment.
12 / AI & trust
Feedback loops require lineage by design
A reviewer correction is useless upstream if its origin is lost.
Track payload identity, source path, model version, original value, correction, evidence, and reviewer action.
15 / Workflow
Build the customer workflow, not the org chart
The workflow crosses portal, data factory, Studio, scoring, reports, and publishing.
Submit → Track → Receive → Analyze.
16 / Workflow
A successful API call is not a successful experience
A success message appeared without a usable score or destination.
Treat missing score or URL as an incomplete outcome.
Save work without hiding blockers

What I learned / what comes next
- Experts need to save partial work without hiding downstream blockers.
- Source traceability and professional judgment belong in the product model.
Validate complete workflows across missing evidence, partial extraction, duplicate documents, and failed integrations.
Examples are recreated or sanitized to protect confidential company, client, and legal information. They preserve the product problem, decision logic, and working method without reproducing proprietary content.
